Product advice shaped by the responsibility of operating products.

These products are a separate portfolio engine and a practical source of judgment. They force us to live with the consequences of technical, product, financial, marketing, support, security, distribution, and maintenance decisions.

Operating the product means owning the whole consequence: code, team, roadmap, user feedback, distribution, support, variable AI cost, maintenance, and cash. A proposed AI-assisted feature was stopped when its cost, effort, and uncertain revenue case did not justify the commitment. Being able to build something did not make it a responsible roadmap decision.

A focused consumer idea still requires product positioning, native platform decisions, location and background behavior, subscriptions, privacy, release operations, support, and continuous maintenance.

The operating lesson

AI product decisions include model location, privacy, platform availability, device requirements, sync, fallback behavior, support, and ongoing product economics—not only prompt quality.

The decision matters more than the feature list.

The Resume App is the clearest example. We helped lead a small cross-functional team while balancing architecture, roadmap, technical debt, user feedback, marketing, support, and cost. When a proposed AI-assisted feature introduced uncertain per-user cost, meaningful development effort, and no sufficiently supported revenue case, the team chose not to build it. Product ownership includes the discipline to stop.

What operating products changes about the work

  • Architecture is evaluated alongside product value, support cost, security, and cash.
  • Every roadmap choice competes with maintenance, distribution, customer feedback, and opportunity cost.
  • Build-versus-buy decisions include the long-term cost of ownership—not only development speed.
  • Products earn continued investment through evidence; sunk effort alone is not a reason to keep building.

Bring an owner’s discipline to your product decisions.

We apply the same build-versus-buy, support, maintenance, release, AI-cost, and opportunity-cost thinking inside the 90-day engagement.

One less thing to worry about.
